A child was injured after government forces lobbed a tear-smoke shell into the house of civilian in Kulgam district. Muhammad Ramzan Wagay of Hardmundgari village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district nursing his wounded child at Damhal Hanji Pora Hospital told news agency CNS that CRPF and Police jointly emerged into the village during night hours and ransacking and damaging property of several locals.

“They lobbed a tear-smoke shell without any provocation that hit my child. We immediately shifted him to the hospital,” Wagay said.

Another resident of the same village Muhammad Akram said that government forces while ransacking his house snatched a laptop from him while despite repeated requested they didn’t return it back. “It is the height of lawlessness. The forces personnel have let loose a reign of terror in the area,” he said and added that the house of his neighbor Muhammad Akbar Mir was also ransacked and inmates were beaten up.

In the adjacent village of Waripora a local Abdul Rashid Mir said that forces personnel barged into the premises of his house and targeted a parked trawler there. “We were forced to come out and with our open eyes we witnessed the havoc created by these men in uniform,” he said. “Forces personnel also made forcible entry into the house of a widow Yasmeen Bano wife of late Abdul Salam of Waripora village and beat up her children,” the locals said.

Feigning ignorance, a police official said that they have no information about these incidents.
