Govt to provide subsidized LED bulbs to people

Dy CM reviews preparedness; Calls for putting necessary mechanism in place

In order to save energy and costs, the government would be providing LED bulbs to the consumers at subsidized rate, so that the revenue so saved would be used on other developmental initiatives.

This information was given at a high level meeting convened to discuss providing of LED lights to consumers at subsided rates to save energy.

The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh and was attended by Minister for Education, Mr Naeem Akhtar, Principal Secretary Home, Mr R K Goyal, Commissioner Secretary Power Development Department, Mr. Dheeraj Gupta, Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department, Mr. Hridesh Kumar, Development Commissioner Power, Mr. Gul Ayaz, Chief Engineers, Other senior officers and representatives of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (ESL) and representatives of e-smart agencies.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister said the initiative would go a long way in saving energy which would result in huge revenue saving for the people and the State. He said necessary measures should also be initiated as early as possible in order to make possible the distribution of the LEDs at subsidized rates to the consumers across the state.

The Deputy Chief Minister asked the officers to maintain close synergy with the LED suppliers to ensure that the distribution of bulbs starts at the earliest. He said the officers should ensure that energy efficient system is put in place that would ensure savings for the government as well as the consumers.

The Minister for Education Mr Naeem Akhtar while speaking on the occasion called for creating necessary awareness about the benefits of initiative among the targeted groups.

He said PDD should also package the initiative as a means of getting 24×7 uninterrupted power, besides making the requisite savings on the electricity bills.

It was given out that 10 feeders in Jammu and Srinagar would be taken up initially on the pilot basis for the introduction of the scheme. Similarly the street lights in various towns and capital cities of the state would also be replaced by LED lamps.
