An artists’ body on Monday called on the political leadership to “shun conventional approach of rigidity and prejudice and look to the problem (Kashmir) from the standpoint of rationality and historical truth.”
In a statement to CNS, the writers and artists associated with recently launched Srinagar-based ‘Srinagar Centre for Art & Culture’ expressed “deep anguish and pain over the loss of precious human lives during the ongoing phase of turmoil and unrest”.
Ina special session held with Prof. Farooq Fayaz in chair, the members held that “throughout the world nowhere in the civilized and democratic society people are held as hostages for such a long period.”
The members expressed surprise over the “intriguing silence of the state and the central government towards the continued state of unrest and uncertainty which has till now consumed 58 precious human lives and left thousands of protestors as physically wrecked and handicapped.”
