Jammu : Amid tightened security measures, the mortal remains of six people including two minor cousins, who were killed in firing incident and IED blast within a span of 14-hours, were cremated at their native place in Dhangri village of Rajouri district on Tuesday.
Hundreds of mourners including relatives, friends and neighbours queued up with flowers and wreaths to pay their last respects to the mortal remains at the government higher secondary school, where the bodies were kept for the night after being shifted last evening following assurance by Lieutenant Governor.
The bodies were cremated in six pyres lined up at Dhangri cremation ground. Two of victims, a 5-year-old boy Vihan Kumar son of Susheel Kumar and his cousin Sumiksha Devi, 16, daughter of Koushal Kumar, were killed in an IED blast on Monday morning.
Four people including a father-son duo were killed in Upper Dhangri area in a firing incident by unknown gunmen on Sunday evening. They included Pritam Sharma (56) and his 33-year-old son Ashish Kumar, Deepak Kumar (23), a PHE employee, and Sheetal Kumar (48).
The cremation took place amid tight security arrangements. Security has been beefed up in and around Rajouri city and adjoining areas, officials said.
Cordon and search operations are on to track down militants involved in the killings, they said.
Director General of Police Dilbag Singh, BJP Jammu and Kashmir chief Ravinder Raina, ADGP Mukesh Singh and divisional commissioner (Jammu) Ramesh Kumar took part in the cremation besides army officers and district administration officials. They laid wreath at the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the departed persons.
Meanwhile, Police today announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for anyone sharing information about those involved in the attacks.
Police in a statement said details of the person sharing the information will be kept secret.
Also, a team of NIA led by a senior officer visited the site at Dhangri village late last afternoon and conducted initial investigation into the firing and IED blast incidents, according to reports reaching GNS. Sources said that NIA taking over the probe was not ruled out. (GNS)
