London: The UK Defence Ministry on Thursday said the Russian invasion of Ukraine has largely been stalled on all fronts since Vladimir Putin’s forces launched the attack. The Boris Johnson government’s remarks were made via a series of tweets. The UK also claimed the Russians continued to face heavy loses. “Russian forces have made minimal progress on land, sea or air in recent days and they continue to suffer heavy losses,” it tweeted. Ukraine still holds its vast majority of territory and major cities, it said as the face-off entered Day 22. “Ukrainian resistance remains staunch and well-coordinated. The vast majority of Ukrainian territory, including all major cities, remains in Ukrainian hands,” the UK said. On Wednesday, the UK Defence Ministry said Russia probably made more air attacks than originally planned due to delays in attaining its objectives. “Given the delays in achieving their objectives and failure to control Ukrainian airspace, Russia has probably expended far more stand-off air launched weapons than originally planned,” the ministry tweeted. The ministry said that there is possibility Russia resorting to older weapons’ use. “As a result, it is likely Russia is resorting to the use of older, less precise weapons, which are less militarily effective and more likely to result in civilian casualties,” it said. According to latest UN report, 1,900 civilian casualties, including 726 deaths have taken place since the Ukraine-Russia conflict started on February 24. “Latest UN reporting indicates that 1,900 civilian casualties, including 726 deaths, have already occurred in the conflict to date. The true casualty figure is likely to be significantly greater and will continue to rise as long as the conflict continues,” the UK said. UNI VP ING
