Thousands participate in funeral prayers of Hizb Militant
Srinagar, April 7: A spontaneous shutdown was observed in Shopian, Pulwama and Kangan on Saturday against the civilian killings while as life returned to normal elsewhere in the Valley.
While as the Pulwama and Shopian districts observed shutdown amid protests against the killings militants and civilians since Sunday, Kangan in Ganderbal observed strike against the killing of Gowhar Ahmad Rather, 22, who was killed after being shot from close blank range by police on Monday.
Reports said that thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Musavir Wani of Dalipora Pulwama at Shaheed Park in Pulwama town on Saturday.
Musavir, a B.Tech student was killed in a brief shootout on Friday and was laid to rest amid sobs and tears.
A complete shutdown amid protests was observed in Pulwama district. Similarly, the shutdown was observed in Shopian and Kangan Ganderbal.
At least five persons received injuries in Pulwama clashes which erupted on Saturday morning against the killing of Musavir. The clashes also ensued against police authorities who initially tried to bar people from participating in large numbers in the funeral prayers of the slain militant. Reports of peaceful protests were also received from Shopian and Kangan.
Amid the strike, the business establishments and traffic remained closed in the twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian.
Meanwhile, life returned to normalcy elsewhere in Kashmir Valley as shops and business establishments reopened and traffic was normal on roads.
At the same time, class work remained suspended in all the higher secondary schools and colleges besides Kashmir University.
Meanwhile, the train services resumed from Srinagar to Baramulla and remained suspended to and fro south Kashmir and Srinagar as a precautionary measure. (GNS)
