Mirwaiz, Malik Arrested at Abi Guzar.
SRINAGAR, NOV, 15: Calling for complete shutdown on November 27 against the “plight of political prisoners in jails” and “atrocities in south Kashmir”, Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) Wednesday vowed to continue the “unity” and take forward the freedom struggle.
Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik held a joint press conference here at Abi Guzar. The duo condemned the ongoing state repression in every nook and corner of the valley especially south Kashmir and plight of Kashmiri prisoners in jails.
Mirwaiz said Kashmiri prisoners in jails are kept with notorious criminals. “Our movement has been curbed. We are not allowed to hold political activities. Kashmir has been turned into a jail,” he said.
Both the leaders condemned the remarks of Mehbooba Mufti for terming Kashmiris “agitators first and beggars later.”
“Mehbooba abused Kashmiris and our sacrifices. Even Ikhwani like Kuka Parray who killed hundreds didn’t abuse Kashmiris. The power has blinded her and she is not able to see the havoc her government has created,” they said.
Amid pro-freedom slogans, both the leaders’ along with dozens of activists were bundled in a police vehicle when they tried to proceed towards Lal Chowk.
It is said that the Mirwaiz was arrested from Abi-Guzar area for the first like this by throwing him into a police vehicle.
Earlier, the JRL leaders called for a complete shutdown on November 27 and appealed people to observe Nov 27 as a black day to show solidarity with the Kashmiri Prisoners languishing in different jails.
The shutdown call was deferred on the demand of students, who are scheduled to appear in the exams. “Several students apprised us and asked us to defer the shutdown due to their ongoing annual examinations,” they said.
Mirwaiz said that following the student deputations, the JRL has now decided to postpone the Saturday’s shutdown to Nov 27.
