Two paramilitary CRPF men were injured after militants attacked their vehicle at Lazbal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday.
A CRPF spokesman said that a group of militants at around 8:45 am opened fire upon a bus of 96 Battalion CRPF which resulted in bullet injuries to two paramilitary troopers while three others suffered minor injuries due to broken glass panes of the vehicle.
Soon after the attack, the spokesman said, entire area was cordoned off by government forces including army and police’s SOG and searches were started to nab the attackers but no one was arrested when reports last came.
Meanwhile, Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit in a statement claimed responsibility of the attack. “Cadres of Lashkar-e Toiba carried out the successfully attack on Army convoy in Anantnag as a result of which forces suffered heavy damage,” spokesperson Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi said.
He said that the cadres of LeT managed to reach safe destination after carrying out the attack.
In the meanwhile, a live hand grenade was today recovered by Police after it was found lying on the roadside near Old Bridge adjacent to DC office in Main Town of Kupwara district.
Official sources said that the grenade was detected by police on the roadside and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was immediately summoned who later recovered the device. Meanwhile panic gripped in the area soon after the news regarding lying of grenade spread. (GNS)
