MLA Wacchi and Advocate Aijaz Ahmad Mir today asked Government to explore the possibilities of wooing international anglers to the Kashmir Valley.
During the discussion in the Lower House of the Legislative Assembly they demanded grants for Animal, Sheep and Fisheries Department. Aijaz Ahmad Mir said that with the introduction of the pro-tourist policies, state would feel improvement in all the sectors.
Mir said “Kashmir is known as Angler’s paradise” adding with the wooing international anglers to the Kashmir.
He said “Government must explore the possibilities of the issuance of licenses to the international tourists, who are also interested in angling.” He said working in this field would help the international projects like introducing foreign breeds by the executive agencies of the current dispensation.
He said that the angler tourists would go and visit streams and Nallahs of the valley, including Lidder, Wangath, Gurez, Hamal, Lam, Sindh, Kishenganga, Sukhnag, Doodhganga, Erin, Ferozpur(Tangmarg), Bringi, Aharbal, Hirpora, Dachigam, Kokernag, Naristan, Madhumati and Nowbugh.
“This will also uplift the socio-economic profile of such areas which are rich in angling and fish farming,” he said. “This is a very vital department of the Government which is connected at the grassroots. Government must focus on various initiatives to revamp this sector,” he added.
“Kashmir offers great scope for sport fisheries. That is why Anglers from all over the world used to come over here every year to enjoy the thrill of angling in the snow fed streams and lakes of this valley,” he said. (PTK)
