Controversy just doesn’t seem to spare the ‘Dangal’ actress Zaira Wasim. The teenager who had earlier been in the eye of a storm for her appeal to Kashmiris on social media stating that she shouldn’t be looked up as a role model, today found herself in a fresh spat with the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Vijay Goel.
The controversy took place after the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader tweeted a painting of a woman in ‘hijab’ and a caged woman. In his tweet Goel tagged Zaira Wasim saying the following
Zaira, who played the character of Geeta Phogat in Dangal, replied by saying, “Women in hijab are beautiful and free.”
She also added “Sir, with due respect to you I feel I must disagree. I request you not to connect me to such a discourteous depiction.”
Previously, the 16-year-old actress had faced the ire of social media for meeting the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
The Dangal actress, almost a week ago, had made her feelings public in a series of posts on her Facebook and Twitter accounts.
The post read: “I’m a just a 16-year-old girl and I hope you treat me accordingly. I’m sorry for what I did but it was not a deliberate decision and I really hope people can forgive me.
There are few more things which are very important and I want to clear them as well. The first and foremost thing is that I am being projected as a role model for Kashmiri Youth. I want to make it very clear that I do not want anyone to follow in my footsteps or even consider me as a role model. I’m not proud of what I’m doing and I want everyone, especially the Youth to know that there are real role models out there whether they are in this time or in our history.”
The actress’ post received huge support from entire Bollywood including Dangal star Aamir Khan. (PTK)
