Given the precision of predictions by weatherman in Jammu and Kashmir, the students of Kashmir University have urged the varsity to postpone all the exams from 22 to January 26.
“The meteorological has predicted snow and rains which will grow heavier from January 22 till January 26. We have to face lot of inconvenience in reaching the examination centres and back home especially in this biting cold,” a group of students told GNS. “There is also unbearable cold which we are unable to cope especially when heating system in examination halls in not up to the mark,” they said.
A number of calls of similar nature were also received by GNS from south Kashmir and the students said that they have to face difficulties in reaching the examination centers and back home.
“If there is significant snowfall, the traffic goes off the roads and by the time we come out of the examination centres, there is already demised transport on roads as a result of which we have to go by foot, thereby causing immense hardship to us,” said one of the callers.
Students of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district also urged the university authorities to take “sympathetic view” in wake of the weather forecast. Meanwhile, Divisional Administration Kashmir in a statement issued on Friday evening said that there are chances of isolated to fairly widespread rains and snow in Kashmir Division.
“There is forecast of scattered rains and snow on January 22, and fairly widespread rain/snow on January 23-24,” a statement of the Divisional Administration said.
The statement said that all the Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division have been asked to necessary precautionary measures in their respective districts. Local meteorological in a statement said fresh snowfall was expected till January 26. (GNS)
