Authorities on Wednesday placed the senior resistance leader and Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chairman, Shabir Ahmad Shah, under house arrest after releasing him from six-month-long police detention.
In a statement issued to KNS, DFP spokesperson said Shah was arrested on July 13 evening and lodged in Raj Bagh police station.
“Immediately after Shah reached his Sanat Nagar residence, the authorities again placed him under house arrest. Through such actions, the democratic claims of the government have proven hollow. Its attitude towards the resistance leadership and people is condemnable. There is police and military rule prevailing in the state,” he said.
The spokesperson said Shah has spent most part of his life in jails and interrogation centers but “this didn’t deter him from pursuing his mission and he remained committed to his stand”.
“Since Shah was released from jail in 2011, he has been under house arrest or in police detention for a period of 39 months and 27 days. During this period, he was barred from offering 227 Friday and 12 Eid prayers,” he said. (KNS)
