Two days of relaxation and shutdown is back to Kashmir today with schools, colleges and business establishments followed the protocol and streets resumed their deserted look.
Police and CRPF have been deployed across all the district headquarters and in Srinagar city to foil the separatists protest call.
However authorities placed Hurriyat Conference leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest to foil their plans of holding a march to Lal Chowk city centre reports said.
Restrictions have been imposed around Lal Chowk area to “maintain law and order,” police sources said.
Section 144 of the CrPc (Criminal Procedure Code) is already in force in Srinagar.
This was the first time that separatists announced full-day relaxation during the ongoing unrest which began after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8.
All roads leading to Lal Chowk, including at Court road, Aftab Gali, Lala Rukh, SRTC bus stand and Janglat mandi have also been closed with barbed wire.
The chowk, which witnessed heavy rush of shoppers and vendors during the past two days due to relaxation in Hurriyat strike, wore a deserted look today with only security forces and JK police personnel keeping a close watch to foil any march.
Roads leading to Maisuma, stronghold of JKLF, also remained closed with barbed wire at Budshah chowk, Madina chowk, Gaw Kadal and Red Cross road to foil any attempt by people to march towards the nearby Lal Chowk.
