District Jail Jammu, Amphalla today organized a colorful cultural programme in the premises to provide moments of solace and entertainment for the jail inmates.
Director General Police, Prisons S.K Mishra was chief guest.
Addressing the gathering of inmates, Mr Mishra urged them to engage in skill and other activities launched for their development and welfare so that they can come out as self reliant citizens at the time of their release.
He asked them to avail education facilities under the adult literacy programme and vocational training provided to them in different trades like electrician, plumber, handloom craftsmen etc.
The DGP Prisons, referring to art, music and handicraft training being provided to the inmates, said that music, art and culture should be promoted in all the prisons. He expressed hope that jail inmates after getting required training will can become excellent performers.
The programme was held by Central Cultural Team of Armed Police, J&K.
Artists from Cultural wing presented colorful items, while Sufi music was the major attraction of the programme. A group performance was presented by female inmates of District Jail Jammu which received thunderous applause from the audience.
Prominent among others who attended the programme were DIG Prisons Dr. M.S Lone, Sr. Superintendent, District Jail Jammu, Javid Masood Fazili, and Staff Officer to DGP, Prisons Saba Shawl. (PTK)
