District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Mr Niraj Kumar today convened a meeting to discuss the modalities for setting up the ‘City Advisory Board’ that shall involve various stakeholders who will work in tandem to build a protective environment for children in difficult circumstances.
District Social Welfare Officer who is also the District Child Protection Officer, Rachna Sharma, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Arti, District Information Officer Esha Chib besides the representatives of Hemophilia Society (NGO) attended the meeting.
DDC informed that the main objective of constituting the City Advisory Board is to ensure that there are adequate services in the district for the care and protection of the children in need, planning and training strategies for the allied system as part of the National Initiatives for Child protection, suggesting measures to address problems and issues faced by the ‘Childline’ and ensuring coordination between the government departments and NGOs.
Detailed discussion was also held regarding the rehabilitation of child labour and DDC asked the DSWO to identify a suitable site for the construction of rehab centres /observation homes for rehabilitating these children.
Earlier, the DSWO, while highlighting the ICPS scheme, informed that the scheme would focus its activities on children in need of care and protection and children in conflict as defined under the Juvenile Justice Act. She further added that the scheme would also provide preventive, statutory and care and rehabilitation services to vulnerable children. (PTK)
