A fire broke out in the main branch of State Bank of India (SBI) in summer capital, Srinagar, early Wednesday, official sources said.
They said the fire was noticed by security force guard in one of the building of SBI at Residency Road near here at 0300 hrs.
They said fire tenders were rushed from Fire and Emergency Service (F&ES) headquarter and other areas to control the flames.
The fire was brought under control immediately before it could spread to adjoining areas, an F&ES official said.
He said ceiling and other property of the first floor of residential quarter besides three security force barracks were damaged in the incident.
The loss could be about Rs two crores, he said adding short circuit might have caused the fire.
However, the main building of the bank was saved and bank operation will continue. (Agencies)
