With the improvement in situation in mountainous Kishtwar district, the authorities Wednesday gave 12-hour relaxation after two days of curfew amid tension over the arrest of local people.
The situation remained peaceful since morning in Kishtwar and there was no report of any protest or stone pelting, reports from Kishtwar said.
Reports said that administration relaxed curfew in Kishtwar around 8 am following which people came out in the market to purchase essential commodities after shops were opened.
As there was no untoward incident, the reports said, the authorities extended relaxation till 8 pm indicating that situation has shown considerable improvement.
Earlier, MLA Langate Er Rashid was sent back by police who intercepted his vehicle at Parna village when he was heading to Kishtwar town.
“The authorities did not allow Rashid to head towards Kishtwar town and send him back to Kashmir,” said an official.
It may be mentioned here that police have arrested five persons including two under PSA alleging that they participated in anti-India protests and raised “pro-freedom slogans”.
Among the five arrested persons, reports said, one is an employee of Sheep Husbandry Department. As many as two different FIRs have been registered in Kishtwar against dozens of people including 40 Government employees for their participation in anti-India protests on two occasions.
Similar, demonstrations were taken out in Doda where the administration sternly dealt with the situation and booked two youths including a known social worker Advocate Baber-ul-Islam sparking massive protest demonstrations against alleged communal approach of the administration.
