Government forces on Thursday resorted to tear smoke shelling in Papchan, Bandipora after locals assembled and engaged forces in stone pelting.
Few youth hurled stones towards CRPF and Police personnel who entered the village in retaliation and lobbed scores of tear smoke shells to disperse protesters, local sources told Rising Kashmir.
Clashes later on spread the main Bandipora market where government forces resorted to intense tear smoke shelling against stone pelting protesters.
Clashes were going on when the reports last came in however there were no reports of any injury.
Meanwhile, Hurryiat(G) organised a pro-freedom rally in Khenusa area of Bandipora.
People from Khudgumunglu, Ashtangoo, Kanibathi and Zurimanz assembled in Khenusa Eidgah who were addressed by Hurriyat Chairman Sayed Ali Gellani telephonically.
