Under ‘public pressure’ a Jammu and Kashmir policeman on Tuesday publicly announced his resignation in north town Sopore district.
The incident occurred at Behrampora village of the town on Monday evening. Locals told news agency CNS that two Special Police Officers (SPOs) of Special Operation Group, Firdous Ahmed and Waseem Ahmed Shiekh informed locals that they want to resign from the Police Department publically.
“On Monday evening Waseem (driver) a resident of Behrampora posted at SDPO office Rafiabad Sopore publically resigned while another cop Firdous, a resident of Thakgund Sopore though didn’t emerge in the village send a word that he too will resign from the job,” local sources said.
They said that shortly after the killing of a local Hurriyat activist Fayaz Ahmed Rather on 29 July at the hands of unknown gunmen, people had asked local policemen to resign from the department. “Both the cops last evening announced their resignations. But so far only Waseem made a public announcement in this regard while Firdous has promised to do so,” they said.
When contacted a police official said that nobody has tendered his resignation. “I don’t know what you mean by saying resigning publically. There is a procedure and so far no cop has tendered his resignation,” he said. (CNS)
