Cop killed after hit by tear smoke shell at Pampore

In a first incident of its kind, a cop was killed after his teargas rifle went off accidentally at Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday.

A police officer told that a police constable who was deployed today in Pampore town sustained serious head injuries after being hit by the tear smoke shell. “The incident occurred when the tear smoke rifle of the cop went off accidentally”.

The injured cop identified as Mehraj-ud-Din, a resident of Tral was immediately shifted to Sub-District hospital Pampore where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival, the officer said.

Pertinently, On Saturday evening, eight CRPF men including two Sub-Inspectors were killed and at least twenty others sustained injuries after militants attacked their convoy at Nambalbal on Srinagar-Jammu highway. Two attackers were also killed later in an retaliatory action.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed at saffron town to mourn the death of two militants in the highway shooting.
