Violent clashes rocked Bomai hamlet of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district following an encounter between the holed up militants and government forces on Friday.
Soon after the news about the killing of a militant at Bomai spread, the people mostly youth took to streets and starting pelting stones on forces.
Forces, in the meantime, responded with tear smoke shells, besides used pepper gas to disperse the group of protesting youth in the area.
Clashes were spread to other adjacent areas as well.
When reports last came in the situation in the area remained tense.
Earlier, the joint team of forces including 22 RR, SOG and CRPF, cordoned a house where two militants were believed to be holed up.
“So far one militant was killed in an ongoing operation”, a police official had said.
He said that the operation in the area is still going on to flush out the other hiding militants.
