Six AK-47 rifles, one pistol, other ammunitions were recovered: Army
Srinagar, May 27 : Six militants and an army soldier were Friday killed in two separate encounters that raged between forces and militants in north Kashmir’s Baramulla and Kupwara districts.
Police said that two militants were killed in an encounter in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Imtiyaz Hussain, SSP Baramulla told that based on a specific information received by Police about the presence of two militants in village Khonchipora Tangmarg, a joint operation was launched by Police and Army 2RR and CRPF 176Bn.
“The residential house where the militants were hiding was sealed while the militants were given an offer for surrender which they refused and instead fired upon advancing joint search parties thereby ensuing an encounter,” he said.
He said that the two militants belonged to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were killed in exchange of fire who have been identified Mehraj Ahmad Bhat, resident of Andargam Pattan and Aadil Ahmad, resident of Brath Sopore.
“Two AK series rifles, other arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of militants. Case has been registered in the incident and further investigation is going on,” he said.
An official said that four militants and a soldier were killed in a two-day long encounter in Toot Maar Ghali (TMG) in Nowgam sector of the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district.
“A soldier killed in the TMG area has been identified as Havaldar Hangpang Dada, resident of Borduria village (Khonsa), in Tir ap district of Arunachal Pradesh,” an official said.
Defence spokesman in a statement issued to KNS said that Six AK-47 rifles, one pistol, other ammunitions were recovered so far from the the posession of six militants who were killed in two separate encounters in north Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Protests and clashes erupted against the killing of two militants after a gun battle erupted in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Reports said that as soon as the news about the death of the two local militants spread across the town, people in large numbers came out on roads post Friday prayers amid massive anti-India and pro-Kashmir slogans in Kanchipora area.
Forces disbursed to tear gas shelling to curb the protests, witnesses said.
The locals of Kanchipora were demanding bodies of the slain militants.
