‘Govt. shielding culprits, undermine findings’.
On the 26th anniversary of Kunan Poshpora mass rape incident, Hurriyat Conference (M) Wednesday urged the international human rights bodies and world community to raise their voice against the gruesome incident, which remains the blackest chapter in the contemporary history of Kashmir.
In a statement, Hurriyat Conference (M) Wednesday termed the failure of punishing the guilty soldiers of Indian Army involved in the gruesome crime very unfortunate and blamed the ruling class for always playing a criminal role to protect the guilty involved in the barbaric incident as no investigation was carried into the incident and no guilty punished despite passing of 26 long years.
Hurriyat (M) said though the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) had in 2011 asked for punishing the guilty personnel and compensating the victims, the role played, however, by the ruling class was to cover up the issue and protect the guilty.
The statement said APHC every year observes February 23 as ‘Kashmir Women’s Resistance Day’ to depict the resilience of our brave women folk to face all odds for the sake of Freedom and also to highlight the atrocities carried by the government forces on Kashmiri women and to attract attention of the international community towards the grave human rights violations in Kashmir.
Hurriyat Conference (M) further said there had been several incidents of atrocities and acts of outraging the modesty carried on Kashmiri women in addition to the shameful incident of mass rape of women in the twin villages of Kunan and Poshpora of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district where soldiers of Indian Army had committed this inhuman act. The non action on the guilty and the complete silence on the part of the various governments since has been mocking on the tall claims of those claiming to be the representatives and saviors of the people of Kashmir. It also exposes the double standards of Indian system while dealing with Kashmiris. Those talking loud of justice and democratic values of India willfully provided protection to the Army personnel involved in this gruesome incident and muzzled all principles of justice and humanity by taking no action against the rapists.
The statement said many international rights bodies including the Amnesty International in their recent reports had accepted the excessive and indiscriminate use of force by government forces on the people of Jammu Kashmir.
Hurriyat (M) said, history stands witness to the fact that the Indian forces have been misusing the unbridled powers they enjoy under the draconian black laws like AFSPA while the governments have always played a criminal role to hush up these cases of grave human rights violations.
Appealing the rights bodies and the civilized nations, who believe in justice and humanity, to use their influence in order to bring the culprits of the gory incident of Kunan Poshpora to justice. Hurriyat (M) said 26 years have passed but the personnel of Indian Army involved in the mass rape and outraging the modesty of about a hundred women at Kunan and Poshpora parishes of district Kupwara have not been booked for this ghastly crime. It has also appealed these bodies to take note of the grotesque human rights violations being committed by the government forces and the governing system in Kashmir and come forward to play their role in helping stop the continuous abuse of Human Rights in Kashmir.
