Srinagar : Rains lashed plains while snowfall was recorded in upper reaches on Thursday to end dry spell for quite some time in Jammu and Kashmir.
Report said snowfall was recorded in Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Kupwara’s Karnah, Shopian and other upper reaches in the Valley.
Most parts of the Valley including Srinagar received rains, they said.
According to a meteorological department official here, Srinagar received 9mm of rain from 0830 to 1730 hours while Jammu had 5.6mm of rainfall during the time.
The rains also led to decreases in day temperature with Srinagar recording maximum of 7.5°C, 4.6°C below normal while Jammu saw high of 18.8°C which was 4.9°C than the normal.
Regarding night temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 5.3°C against 0.8°C on the previous night and it was 6.2°C above normal for this time of the year in Srinagar.
Qazigund recorded a minimum of 5.0°C against 0.8°C on the previous night, he said. The minimum temperature was 6.0°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, the official said.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 1.5°C against minus 1.2°C on the previous night and it was 44.9°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 3.5°C against 2.6°C on the previous night and the temperature was above normal for the place by 3.9°C, the official said.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 4.2°C against 1.3°C on previous night and it was 5.3°C above normal there, the official said.
Gulmarg, the official said, recorded a low of minus 1.0°C against minus 1.8°C on the previous night and the latest temperature was 2.1°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir.
Jammu recorded a minimum of 13.5°C which was above normal by 3.2°C for the winter capital of J&K, he said.
“From 1st-6th December, weather is expected to be partly to generally cloudy,” a meteorological department official told GNS.
He said 1st-2nd December, weather is likely to be partly to generally cloudy. On 3rd December, he said, weather is expected to be generally cloudy while from 4th-10th December, it is expected to be partly to generally cloudy.(GNS)
