Srinagar : Tight security was in place on Monday ahead of the August 15 official function in Kashmir Valley.
A senior police official told GNS that drones and helicopters have been used to ensure security.
The official said that “adequate security” arrangements have been put in place. “There is three-tier security in place. drone surveillance, helicopter recce forms the security arrangements,” the official said
The arrangements,The official said, have been made in a way that no one should be inconvenienced.
While there were a few barricades in the city, police and CRPF were seen randomly frisking vehicles and passersby.
Entry to the stadium is highly regulated by electronic equipment and human surveillance, they said.
Meanwhile, officials said that a grand function is scheduled to be held at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar during which the Lieutenant Governor, Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha will hoist the tricolour.
“The Civil Society members, trade unionist, Trade and Transport Federations, Politicians, students and General Public are continuously approaching the office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir for issuance of the visiting passes to attend/ witness the event,” an official spokesperson said inb a statement issued here, adding, “Accordingly, General Public including the Civil Society Members, Trade Unionist, Trade and Transport Federations, Politicians, Students etc. are hereby cordially invited to attend Independence Day Function-2023 at Bakshi Stadium and be seated before 9.00 AM to make the event more graceful and colourful.”
The valid identity Cards shall be treated as entry passes for the venue, it added. (GNS)
