Srinagar : Police on Monday said that army has killed in an infiltrator along the Line of Control in Keran area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
“One Pakistani (militant)/infiltrator got neutralised by Army in Keran Sector (Jumagund area) in Kupwara district,” police said in a tweet, adding, “. Search ops in the area is still going on. Further details shall follow.”
Later army in a statement said that based on specific input of JKP and further corroborated by other intelligence agencies, a joint operation was launched in general area of Jumagund, Kupwara by Indian Army and JKP.
“At approx 10.25 AM today, taking advantage of bad weather and visibility conditions, a (militant) was seen trying to infiltrate onto own side of Line of Control,” a defence ministry spokesperson said in the statement to GNS, adding, “The alert troops kept (militant) under strict surveillance. When the (militant) reached closer to the ambush party, he was challenged.”
Sensing danger, he said, the militant fired on the party and tried to flee. “The (militant) was however neutralized after effective fire was brought down on him,” he said, adding, “Search of the area resulted in recovery of an AK series rifle and other war like stores.” (GNS)
