Srinagar : Two non-local labourers were killed in a grenade attack at their rented accommodation in Harmain area of Shopian district late last night, police said on Tuesday. Police claimed to have arrested a “hybrid” militant along with his accomplice for the “involvement” in the incident in the south Kashmir district.
“(Militants) killed two outside labourers in a grenade attack in the Hermain area of Shopian in the dead of the night while they were asleep. Senior police officers alongwith reinforcement reached at the spot,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
He said at about 2345 hours midnight, Police received an information about the incident in which two outside labourers identified as Monish Kumar and Ram Sagar, both residents of Kanooj, UP received critical splinter injuries. “Both the injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospital however they succumbed to their injuries.”
The whole area was cordoned off and a massive joint cordon and search operation was launched, he said.
Meanwhile, the investigation conducted revealed that the grenade at the accommodation of the labourers was thrown by one hybrid (militant) linked with LeT identified as Imran Bashir Ganie of Hermain Shopian, who was promptly arrested by Police within hours of the incident,” he said in a statement to GNS, adding, “Apart from confessing about his involvement in the gruesome crime, led police to arrest of his accomplice.”
ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar (IPS) visited the incident scene and while sharing the details regarding the incident with media said that although the actual grenade thrower militant and his accomplice have been arrested by police within hours of the incident, “the main culprits who hatched the conspiracy for this gruesome crime and got it executed including Danish and District Commander of LeT Abid shall be brought to justice very soon.”
He said that the investigation in the case is vigorously going on and based on the revelations made by the arrested militant and same being further corroborated by other evidences including human and technical intelligence, the hunt for other involved militants is on. “Pertinently, during one such CASO although the contact with (militants) was established but they managed to flee from the spot,” the spokesperson said. However, he said, the efforts are on to nab them. “Moreover, CASOs to nab the other involved terrorists is in progress at many places.” (GNS)
