Srinagar : Government on Monday constituted a committee to oversee progress of implementation of various projects for promotion and development of bamboo and its products in the Jammu and Kashmir.
The projects are envisaged in MoU, signed between the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council, Assam.
Headed by Administrative Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, the 12-member committee has been asked to explore scope of bamboo plantation, research and development, tissue culture and its potential usage in Rural/Eco-tourism, skill development, MSMEs, livelihood generation etc. in the Jammu and Kashmir.
According an order, a copy of which lies with GNS, the committee has been also tasked with to devise a comprehensive action plan, with set times, for establishing a complete value chain, with required infrastructural and technological support, between the producer (bamboo farmer’) and the industry in consonance with the MoU objectives.
