Srinagar : Police on Friday said that two “hybrid” militants were arrested in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
“Police along with security forces have arrested 02 more hybrid (militants) during the investigation of an earlier case in Handwara and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession,” a police spokesperson said in a statement to GNS.
“On 4 August 2022, joint parties of Police, Army (21 RR) and CRPF (92 Bn) had arrested three hybrid (militants) in Handwara and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession,” he said, adding, “Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 213/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation was initiated.”
Based on leads developed during the further investigation of the case, he said, the role of two more individuals emerged in the conspiracy to carry out militant acts. They have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat alias Hilal son of Khazir Mohd Bhat resident of Humpora and Naseer Ahmad Mir son of Mohd Ramzan Mir of Sagipora. Subsequently, both the accused were arrested by the joint parties of Police, Army (21RR) and CRPF (92Bn), he said. “On their disclosure, arms and ammunition including 02 Pistols, 04 Pistol Magazines and 58 Pistol rounds and 06 Grenades were recovered from their possession,” the spokesperson said, adding, “Further investigation in the case is going on.” (GNS)
