Kyiv: Two Ukrainian soldiers were killed and six were injured in a Russian attack on the city of Lutsk, according to the head of the regional administration, Yuriy Pohulyayko. Russia says it hit military airfields in the western Ukrainian cities of Lutsk and Ivano-Frankivsk on Friday. Three airstrikes by Russian forces on Friday hit residential areas in Dnipro, killing one person, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Explosions were reported in Ivano-Frankivsk near its airport, according to the city’s mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv. Four other explosions were also reported near an airfield in the northwestern city of Lutsk, kyivindependent quoted the head of the Volyn Regional State Administration, Yuriy Pohulyayko, as saying. There explosions rocked the cities simultaneously with Lutsk and Dnipro in opposite sides of the country. Air raid sirens had rung out across several cities in Ukraine in the hours prior to the explosions. Ukraine’s ICTV channel cited reports that a plant near the airfield was set ablaze. In Dnipro, three blasts were reported by Ukrainian media, with one apparently hitting a two-storey shoe factory. The other two explosions were near a kindergarten and a multi-apartment building, according to the BBC. Russian forces hit the northern city Chernihiv’s water supply networks. UNI ING MR
