By Ashish Srivastava New Delhi: Hundreds of Indian students desperate to leave the war-hit Ukraine are now stranded at its borders as the neighbouring countries of Poland and Romania have yet not allowed them to enter despite assurances from the Indian embassies, the students alleged. Multiple students told UNI that the authorities at Poland and Romania borders are not allowing them to enter the countries. The students alleged that the nodal officers from Indian missions in the respective countries appointed at their borders did not respond when they reached there. A couple of students showed us the situation through video calls. They also shared images in which a huge gathering of Indians could be seen at a border area whose gates were closed. The students complained that they have to wait outside in extremely cold weather with very limited food and water. According to them, they had left for the borders only after receiving a go-ahead from the Indian missions situated in their respective countries. We were was asked to fill out a Google form sharing details. Now when we have arrived, no one is responding and only asking us to wait more, said Shivansh Mishra who studies medicine at Vinnitsa National Medical University, Vinnytsya. He had booked a taxi along with three other students to reach Romania border following the instructions from the Indian embassy in Ukraine. However, he is still waiting at the border even after arriving there 8 hours ago. 20-year-old Sam Jadoth had to face double the ordeal of travelling 800 kilometres from one border to another and explained his ordeal while speaking to UNI. Jatodh, who is in 2nd year of MBBS and lives in Ternopil city was asked to return when he was kilometres away from the Poland border by an Indian embassy official. He then travelled to Romania where he is also stuck along with hundreds of other students. “Our taxi was stuck in traffic 40 kilometers before the Poland border as locals are fleeing to other nations. I thought to update our status with the embassy. When I contacted there, I was told to return. This is after I fill up the form provided to us by the embassy itself. Then we turned our taxi to Poland where we are stranded now,” he said. UNI ASH SY 1533
