Srinagar, Sep 30: A week after authorities confirmed that DNA of three Rajouri youth killed in an alleged fake encounter in July, at Amshipora Shopian, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, on Wednesday said that the bodies of the trio, will be exhumed and handed over to their families.
The trio, identified as Abrar Ahmed (25), Imtiyaz Ahmed (20) and Mohammed Ibrar (16), who had come to South Kashmir’s district Shopian, in search of livelihood as laborers, were killed in Amshipora area of the district, in an encounter by the Army on July 18 this year, claiming them to be militants.
After a hue and cry from the families of the slain and public outrage, the DNA samples of the families of the youth were war sent over to find out whether those match with their DNA.
It was after an unusual delay of more than two months, that police made public the results and confirmed that the samples of Rajouri youth have matched with those of their families.
Succumbing to the persistent demand of the families of the youth, police has now decided to exhume the bodies of the three youth and IGP Kashmir on Wednesday said that the bodies will be handed over to their families, for burial according to their wish.
Meanwhile a police official on the condition of anonymity said that bodies of the slain youth will be exhumed in presence of a magistrate, police and civil officials soon.
He said, “We are waiting for some legal formalities, after which the process will be taken in hand.”
“Police will facilitate the shifting of the bodies to Rajouri”, he said. (KDC)
