Budgam, Nov 14: Voter awareness under “Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation” (SVEEP) was today held at Revenue Complex Khansahab.
The programme was organized jointly by Education Department through Nodal Officer, SVEEP and District Administration Budgam. The day-long programme was presided over by District Election Officer, Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar.
Speaking on the occasion, the DEO elaborated on the importance of the awareness generation about the electoral process and voting rights of every eligible citizen. She said the voting rights provide every citizen power to elect a public representative of his/her own choice. She said people in the democratic set up must ensure maximum participation in the election process for the development of their areas. She said every citizen gets an access to his representative easily and becomes part of the development process of his village or local area through these elections.
The DEO urged for maximum participation of voters in the upcoming Panchayat polls, as these elected bodies are must for the development of rural areas of the district.
While deliberating on the importance of voting ID card, she urged that any person or new voter still left out should apply and acquire same for its varied benefits.
The DEO appreciated the organizers and urged them to organize similar programmes in other parts of the district to ensure maximum awareness is imparted to generate enthusiasm among new entrants in the electoral process.
Among others, the program was attended by, SDM Khansahab Samar Naik, DEPO Farooq Ahmad Raina, Nodal Officer SVEEP, SDPO, Tehsildar Khansahab, large number of young voters, school children, Ashas and Anganwadi workers and other concerned.
