Denounces Modi’s remarks on Kashmir
Srinagar, July 4: The joint resistance leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for complete shutdown on the second anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen slain commander Burhan Wani on Sunday.
In a statement issued to GNS, JRL called on religious clerics to hold Fateh Khawani on July 6 to commemorate the second anniversary of Burhan Wani and “126” others who were killed in 2016.
“JRL will hold a general public meeting in Tral on Sunday,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, JRL in a statement denounced the recent statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that “the Government of India’s goal in Jammu and Kashmir is good governance, development, responsibility and accountability”.
Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik said Kashmir is not an issue of development or administration, nor it can be resolved through military might.
They said the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir is a long-standing issue in international forums and the world community has agreed to decide its political destiny through right to self-determination.
The leadership said Modi’s statement is “not more than jugglery of words”.
“India is suffering from arrogance of power. Since past seven decades, India is exploiting and looting our resources, and authorities in Delhi are deliberately ignoring the hard realities about Jammu and Kashmir,” JRL said adding that Indian authorities “instead of stating any logic are issuing threats and adding fuel to fire”.
JRL suggested Indian leadership to learn from the annals of history, saying Kashmir was much more progressive and on forefront in economy and life standard was far better than other states of India.
The leadership blamed Indian authorities for turmoil, disturbance and other issues related economy and development, and said that “forced occupation has pushed state to stone-age like situations”.
“Jammu Kashmir has been blessed with rich resources, forests minerals, however were looted and plundered by forces and authorities in Delhi,” the leaders said.
Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik said “it is unfortunate that Narendra Modi and other Indian politicians instead of relying on rational thinking are pursuing their fanatical dogma”.
“The egoistic approach adopted by Indian authorities is root cause of turmoil in state,” JRL said adding that only the reasonable and compassionate approach can solve Kashmir issue.
JRL asked prime minister of India to “show wisdom and mature approach as his rhetoric about transformation and development has already proved hoax”. (GNS)
