Srinagar, March 31: A special police officer (SPO) was killed and another injured critically in two separate attacks in twin districts of south Kashmir on Saturday.
Official sources said that the gunmen fired upon Mohammad Ashraf near Muran Chowk at around 4:25 pm.
In the incident, Ashraf, a resident of Mouchpona village suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to the nearby district hospital where he succumbed to injuries,” he said.
Sources said that Ashraf, a former militant was working as an SPO in Cargo, Srinagar and at present was residing at Bagi-e-Mehtab, Chanapora in Srinagar.
SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary confirmed the incident.
“Ashraf was fired upon by the suspected militants near Muran Chowk. He was working as an SPO in Srinagar,” SSP said.
In another incident, the suspected militants opened fire upon SPO Turlok Singh in Khanbal. In the incident, the SPO sustained critical bullet wounds and has been shifted District hospital Anantnag for treatment where from he was later shifted to army’s 92 base hospital Badamibagh, Srinagar.
A Police officer concerned confirmed the incident and said that the cop was regulating traffic when he was fired upon.
Meanwhile, police have registered cases in both the incidents and launched searches to nab the assailants. (GNS)
