Putting an end to the speculation that the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) campus will be shifted from district Ganderbal, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has said that there is “no question” of shifting the campus of Central University of Kashmir from Ganderbal. However she said that there are difficulties in the construction at the present site and an alternate site would be identified within the district for relocating CUK.
In a late night message on social networking website, Twitter, Mehbooba said there are difficulties in the construction at the present site at Tulmulla village of Ganderbal and the administration has been tasked to identify an “alternate suitable site” within the district.
“Central university construction site in Ganderbal has experienced minor difficulties. Administration has been tasked with identifying alternate/additional suitable sites within Ganderbal. Absolutely no question of shifting it anywhere else,” Mehbooba wrote on twitter.

The civil society Ganderbal has welcomed and hailed the timely statement of Chief minister about the CUK campus.
“It is a welcome statement. We appreciate that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has made a commitment that the CUK campus will not be shifted from Ganderbal. The work on the campus should be expedited now so that there is no further delay” Irfan Naqshbandi a member of civil society Ganderbal said.
Minister for Works (R&B), Naeem Akhtar has also welcomed the statement of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti regarding relocating of the Central University Kashmir site within district Ganderbal.
Mr Akhtar said that there is no proposal of shifting CUK campus from Ganderbal as has been made clear by the Chief Minister. He said as the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has raised apprehensions over the feasibility of the existing CUK site near Tulmulla, the Government would explore alternative sites within the district for the University.
He said some vested interests have spreading canards that the CUK is being shifted from Ganderbal which is totally wrong.
The Minister said the Education Minister has also clarified in the Lower House during the recent Budget Session that there is no any proposal for shifting of Central University of Kashmir from district Ganderbal.
He hoped that the administration will make all its efforts to identify the alternate suitable site within Ganderbal at an earliest so that work on this prestigious project could be started soon.
