Srinagar, Dec 16: After four days, army’s HAWS rescue team managed to retrieve body of one soldier who had gone missing along with two others at Gurez sector of Bandipora district in north Kashmir early this week after being hit by an avalanche.
On December 12, an avalanche struck Nani Post of army’s 36RR in Baktoor area of Kanzalwan in Gurez sector during snowfall. Due to avalanche, three soldiers went missing. After four days of efforts, the army’s HAWS managed to retrieve the body of one soldier at 4:30 pm who has been identified as Sepoy Kaushal Kumar, official sources said. An army official confirmed the recovery of soldier’s body.
In another incident on the same day, a landslide struck Patila Post of Army’s 20 Dogra regiment in Nowgam sector of Handwara in Kupwara district. The searches at Nowgam are also underway but there is no breakthrough so far.
