Srinagar, Dec 15: A medical representative has been detained by Jammu and Kashmir police in Srinagar for deleting Facebook page of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) led by Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan.
The Facebook of DAK had lakhs of ‘likes’ and was being updated regularly. After the page was deleted, the DAK president Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan and his associates brought the matter into the notice of police and accordingly, a youth namely Naveed Ahmad Shah was detained by Nigeen Police Station.
The accused works as medical representative with a drug company namely ‘Alif Remedies’.”We have detained the accused and right now, he and Dr Nisar are sorting out the matter,” a police official said.
Dr Nisar blamed “drug mafia” for deleting DAK’s page on Facebook, saying: “this is one of the means to silence us but it won’t deter us”. “It is part of a larger conspiracy and the drug mafia is involved in this against whom we are running a campaign to stop illegal trade of spurious drugs in Kashmir which has become one of the biggest menaces of present times in Valley,” he said.
The DAK president claimed that the arrested medical representative works with a “shoddy pharma company”. “This is a conspiracy to stop us from running campaign against the drug mafia. They have tried various means before as well but we won’t stop and continue our campaign which we launched in 2012 after these spurious drugs claimed lives of dozens of infants,” Dr Nisar said.
About the accused, the DAK president said that at the time of the launch of their website, he had introduced himself as IT expert and sought user name and password of their Facebook page.
“On November 18 last month, the two admins of our Facebook page, Dr Reyaz Ahmed Dagga and Shafiq Khambey, received notifications that they have been removed as admins from the page. Accordingly we lodged a complaint before police station Nigeen and we are grateful to them for solving the case,” Dr Nisar added.
