Srinagar, Dec 8 (GNS): The Lakes and Waterways Authorities said on Friday that it has retrieved 56 springs on the shore of Dal Lake, Kashmir’s world famous water body in the heart of this summer capital of the state.
“While 56 springs have been retrieved, the process for retrieval of further springs has been started,” an official of J&KLAWDA said.
He said that sampling will be done so as to find out the effect of these springs.
Asked about the question posed recently by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court’s division bench as to how sampling can be done when oozing of springs was within the waters of lake, the official responded that LAWDA’s scientific wing will explore the possibility in this regard.
Off late, the lake has attracted attention of government, particularly Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Recently, the Chief Minister evinced keen interest in the lake cleaning technology and sewerage treatment technology developed by Cyprus and sought to use it for cleaning and conserving Dal Lake in the State.
Earlier the Chief Minister during her visit to the interiors of Dal Lake expressed dismay at the plight of lake, a flagship of Kashmir tourism.
On October 2, Mehbooba announced to visit the lake periodically to personally monitor its cleaning process.
During the visit, she directed immediate removal of junk from the shoreline of the lake at Nishat. She also directed further pacing up of de-weeding and cleaning process. She said she would be personally monitoring the cleaning process of the lake.
The High Court has time and again expressed its dismay over the waste being thrown into Dal lake, terming it “disgraceful”.
“Disgraceful. God helps those who help themselves,” the court had observed after seeing photographs depicting heaps of garbage which included head of a sheep, animal intestines and other waste. (GNS)
