Reacting a day later to his disqualification from the Rajya Sabha, JD(U) rebel leader Sharad Yadav said in a post on Twitter on Tuesday that he will continue to fight to save democracy.
Yadav along with MP Ali Anwar were disqualified in a late night order by Rajya Sabha Chairperson M. Venkaiah Naidu. Mr. Yadav blamed Bharatiya Janata Party of breaking the maha-gathbandhan to seize power in the state.
“If to speak [sic] against this undemocratic style is my fault I will continue to fight to save democracy,” he tweeted.
Senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury too raised questions on the order saying that the Rajya Sabha secretariat displayed unusual alacrity.
“The petition was filed on September 2 and the decision is out on December 4. The speed is mind-boggling. Similar cases are pending in Lok Sabha for over a year. So political affiliation is the only thing that matters?” Yechury asked in a series of tweets.
