Poonch, Nov 26: Authorities on Sunday imposed restrictions in Mendhar town of Poonch District following law and order problem during anti-encroachment drive.
As per Reports that the drive was led by concerned Tehsildar and as the official team was demolishing the illegal structures at Saria Cement market Mendhar, some local traders objected to it. The situation took ugly turn when some people manhandled the Tehsildar Shahzad Khan. He suffered multiple injuries and was hospitalized.
Meanwhile, people supportive of anti-encroachment drive had a scuffle with those opposing it leading to severe clashes in the area. The locals stage protest and questioned police failure to prevent attack on the local Tehsildar.
“A vehicle (JK02BN-0285-Swift) belonging to one Wajid Bashir was also burnt during the mob violence”.
The drive as per official sources was launched in a bid to clear local drainage system, chocking of which has resulted in flood like situation in the area especially during rainy season in Mendhar town.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Poonch District, Mohammad Ashraf Choudhary said that strict action would be taken against those who attacked the Tehsildar and his team.
SDM Mendhar Rahul Yadav said that section 144 CrPc has been imposed in the town in wake of law and order situation.
