‘His right kidney, gallbladder already removed, IVC repaired’
Srinagar, Nov 26: The 16-year-old Zahid Manzoor Mir, who was severely injured after government forces pumped hundreds of pellets into his body two days ago, remained critical at SMHS hospital here on Sunday, authorities say.
Medical Superintendent SMHS, Dr Mohammad Salim Tak said that gallbladder and right kidney of the boy were removed because both the organs were severely damaged. “In addition, some tissues were repaired,” he said.
Asked about Zahid’s condition, the Medical Superintendent said: “He remains to be serious but stable.”
A doctor who was among the team that performed surgery on Zahid said that “it seems that the boy was fired pellets from very close range.”
“Not only his gallbladder and kidney were removed, we also repaired his IVC (inferior vena cava, a large vein that carries deoxygenated blood from the lower and middle body into the right atrium of the heart),” he said.
A class 11 student from Zoonimar Soura, Zahid became the latest victim of pellet shot gun used by government forces in Kashmir.
He was heading home after finishing his class 11 examinations and pellets were pumped allegedly into his body at Nawa Kadal chowk on Friday.
SSP Srinagar Imtiyaz Ismail Parray said a case has been registered in connection with ‘incident’.
“There was a law and order problem in the area and pellets were fired in the area. we have already registered a case in connection with the incident,” he said.
