SRINAGAR | NOV 20: Soon after the Hajin gunfight in Bandipora district ends pictures of the slain went viral on social networking sites.
Six Lashkar-e-Toiba militants and Indian Air Force personnel, however, what shocked many was the picture of a Jammu youth portrayed as slain militant who is alive and busy in his daily errands.
It was the Sunday afternoon when Abdul Majid, a resident of Khati Ka Talab, received a call informing him that his picture was flashed along with other dead on TV screens and news websites.
A video of Majid has gone viral on social networking site facebook, saying that he and his family was in a state of shock. “Leading newspapers like Amar Ujala, Dainik Jagran and others have carried the picture,” he said in the video.
Terming it a conspiracy against him, Majid demanded a thorough investigation into the mischief and said that he has already filed a complaint in this regard.
Majid Ahamd, who sells barbecues at Khati Talab, said, “I am a simple and hardworking man, I am a common person of the state, and I am not affiliated with any militant organization”.
He added that it is the failure of the National media and Jammu and Kashmir government as they without any proof carried my picture. How can they carry my picture,” he questioned. He added that he will take action against these media house that have shares his picture.
Carrying a long beard and donning, Majid’s picture was carried by several newspapers on the front page captioning that he was the nephew of Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi: Abu Zargam.
He said that wearing a cap and carrying beard is Islamic teachings; Whoever has done it has tarnished my image. He said that I am really feeling sad as the media of our state is not doing good work.
A passionate cricketer, “Everybody either in Jammu or in Kashmir know me very well, but people outside the state will call me escaped militant and may attack me, who will be responsible for my security not only me my other family members,” he added.
