A family in Khag area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district Saturday alleged army of thrashing and beating its members during a nocturnal raid.
Family members of Assadullah Khan, 85 informed over phone that they were allegedly attacked by army.
“It was 10:00 pm when we observed suspicious movement of some persons outside our home and we came out to see,” Abdul Majid Khan, son of Assadullah said adding “we saw dozens of army men who fled to nearby paddy fields.”
Majid said that at about 11:45 pm scores of forces personnel came again and banged their doors and windows. “They barged in and we shouted but they beat us ruthlessly with gun barrels and injured our 6 members.”
Majid told that they called police station Khag over phone but they allegedly paid no heed. “Later we went to the police station Khag to register a complaint against army but police did not opened the main gate of the station,” Majid alleged.
When contacted SHO Khag Mohammad Aslam told that army had gone to search their house but they mistook the army men as braid choppers and made noise. “After inputs regarding presence of militants army cordoned the house of Khan but the members mistook the army as braid choppers. They shouted and army tried to make them silent and thrashed them,” SHO Aslam said. He added that no one was critically injured.
Aslam refuted the family allegations and said that no one among the family visited police station during night. “It is baseless allegation,” he said.
Meanwhile, those who were injured in alleged army thrashing have been identified as Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Umar khan, Assadullah Khan, Mohammad Maqbool Khan and Gulzar Ahmad Khan.
