The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has quashed dentition 35th detention order under Public Safety Act against senior Hurriyat Conference leader Masral Alam Bhat.
According to news agency GNS, a bench of Justice Alok Aradhe quashed the fresh detention order under the PSA, described as lawless by Amnesty international, against Alam after hearing his counsel advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom.
The Court had earlier this year quashed the detention order of Alam, who heads Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, a constituent of Hurriyat Conference (G) headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Alam has been booked under PSA several times since April 2015 and the latest order in the series was issued by few months ago.
Alam was released after four-and-a-half years of detention soon after the PDP-BJP Government took charge in March last year. However, he was rearrested on April 17, 2015 and detained under the PSA for alleged anti-national activities during a rally to welcome Geelani home from New Delhi.
Since 1990 the state government has booked Alam in 35 times under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Alam was born in 1971 at Zaindar Mohalla, a mixed neighborhood of Muslims and Pandits, in Srinagar.
Bhat ran the 2010 agitation when the other top Hurriyat Conference and JKLF leaders were caged. The new age Hurriyat Conference leader, who was raised in riches, is an alumna of elite Tyndale Biscoe School in Srinagar.
