Condemns strict restrictions by authorities.
While terming the 27th October the most unfortunate day for the people in the recent history of Kashmir, the Hurriyat Conference (M) said today when people of Kashmir were observing the day as a black day, the government again turned to its traditional approach of curbing the dissent by imposing curfew and strict restrictions on the movement of the people besides putting the Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house confinement to put curbs on his social, political and religious activities and prevent him from offering the obligatory Friday prayers.
In a statement, Hurriyat (M) said because of the restrictions for the fifth consecutive week no Friday prayers could be offered in Kashmir’s grand mosque (Jamia Masjid).
Hurriyat Conference (M) termed the action of the authorities as vindictive and while condemning it strongly said that these actions amount to the direct interference in religious affairs of the people and these means of oppression are used under a well-planned policy to crush the resolve of people besides choking the economy of downtown Srinagar to punish the people for their unflinching support to the movement.
Hurriyat (M) said the dictatorial attitude adopted by the state government is aimed to weaken the popular political sentiment of the people of Kashmir and strongly condemned the Government for resorting to frequent imposition of curfews in downtown and caging a huge population in their homes.
Hurriyat Conference (M) said the Kashmir stands as an internationally accepted dispute, and the people of Kashmir are struggling for their basic right, the right of self determination from past seven decades, adding, the implementation of UN resolution or a meaningful dialogue between India, Pakistan and the People of Kashmir is the only way forward to resolve this issue.
Hurriyat (M) also strongly condemned the detaining of senior Hurriyat leader Mukhtar Ahmad Waza at Sherbagh Police Station from last night. (KNS)
