A militant was killed in an ongoing gunfight with government forces in Kalghi area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, police said.
Unconfirmed reports said that three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.
An official said that forces cordoned off the area after receiving inputs about the presence of militants.
“As they reached the suspected spot, the militants opened fire,” he said, adding that the forces retaliated.
“Terrorists movement spotted in Kalgi area of #Uri. Operation launched by Baramulla Police, @adgpi and @crpf_srinagar. @JmuKmrPolice,” tweeted Nitish Kumar, IGP North Kashmir.
“During search op, #miltants opened fire. Villagers entrapped in gun battle rescued. 1 militant killed so far. Operation is still on.
