The Ministry of Home Affairs has said that nearly 50 percent of total 186 rights violation complaints have been received from J&K over last four years.
In reply to an RTI application by Common Wealth Human Right Initiative (CHRI), the MHA data indicates that J&K accounted for almost 50 percent of the human rights violation complaints in various categories under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA),
It said the monetary relief was recommended in 03 percent cases at Rs. 21 lakh as only five cases were found to be eligible for monetary relief in J&K.
“On the other hand, Assam which accounted for less than a third of the complaints received the largest proportion (48%) of monetary relief recommended by the Government. In 57 cases from Assam, monetary relief was recommended to the tune of Rs. 3.10 crores,” the MHA reply said.
