Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday extended “full support” to the Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee (JKCC) – an umbrella organization of trade bodies and civil society formations – to fight against the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) at the cost of state’s Special status.
In a statement, Mirwaiz said that they have full faith in the sense of judgement of JKCC. “…and extend support to their protest programs, in the wake of JK Government’s decision to implement GST in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Mirwaiz said that people of Kashmir will “tooth and nail” oppose all moves aimed at eroding the special status of J&K and in turn affecting the disputed nature of Kashmir.
“Any attempt to implement the law will be met with stiff resistance by the leadership and people”, said the Mirwaiz, “unless grave apprehensions and serious concerns” raised by the JKCC regarding the manner and motive of the law are allayed.
He also condemned the high-handedness of the state against the protesting traders and members of JKCC by arresting them and foiling their peaceful protest. “It is deplorable that every move to raise our voice on any matter is met with force and repression,” rued Mirwaiz.
