In an unusual incident, an old man, visibly in his seventies tried to snatch a rifle from a CRPF personnel in Lal Chowk, Anantnag on Monday.
Eye witnesses told Rising Kashmir: “An old man was sitting besides a CRPF personnel on a shop porch in Lal Chowk. All of a sudden he grabbed the rifle of the CRPF soldier and tried to run away. The trooper raised an alarm and several CRPF men present at the spot pounced on the old man.”
They said he was beaten to pulp by CRPF personnel before handing him over to police.
Meanwhile, police said that the man is mentally unsound and was let go.
DO Sherbagh police station Javaid Ahmed said: “An old man was handed over to us by the CRPF. After questioning we found him mentally unsound. He was released immediately.”
